Mara Day 16 2024 ATFO

Good morning

I fell asleep last night trying to finish Mara‘s video, I was able to finish it this morning. One of Mara‘s biggest fears right now is that the world might be cruel to her( not saying it was in the past )…I get a sense that she does not trust easily, probably because she has not had quiet landing, a place to call home….

looking back at other years with past ATFO Horses one might say I’m behind the ball but for mara, I think this is just what she needs. 

She’s extremely sensitive to sounds that are not in nature, my jacket, Velcro, plastic bags, sudden movements……I believe Mara to be extremely smart, and kind….however right now she’s using the “ reactive “ side of her brain instead of her “ thinking “ side. She gets better each day.

This am when I went to feed….as I entered into her stall she didn’t move, normally she moves to the back of the stall. She just stood….then I moved in closer and she still stood…I was actually able to touch her on the side she normally does not like…..THIS WAS HUGE….🥰

With show season starting up again this Saturday, we have busy times. This weekend there will be 17 student and 12 horses going to the show! My hopes are that Mara will be able to attend 1 if not 2 shows before the end of our 100 days together. Sundancer, ( my 2023 ATFO horse ) was amazing at the last show together.

Mara has big shoes to fill, this is why I’m taking things slow!
