🎀 2nd required post 🎀
The last 68 days have flown by, as they always do….!
My time with Mara is a daily reminder why I pick horses that show signs of being a harder horse for training and need true guidance. Mara is an ( approximately ) 7 year old Morgan that stands around 15 hands tall and is currently barefoot. Mara has a current coggins, shots records, dental records and is up to date with worming.
Mara struggles with trust but she has let her walls down substantially for me…I AM TRULY GRATEFUL. In the beginning, just being around her stall would make her extremely uncomfortable. She also was aggressive in the feild with my other horses. She didn’t quite know what to think about her new life. Mara wouldn’t come to me unless I had a hold of her, So you can imagine how Turn out would be a problem….!
It took almost 3 weeks of working with her in the field before she would come to me with the shaking of grain. Then trying to attach Mara with a lead-rope was a challenge on its own. This is just a little example / display of what Mara and I have been working on daily….let alone the saddle 🤣
I’m happy to say you can walk into her stall. Pet, and halter Mara with little to no problem. She will lead around anywhere with you. She is friends with all of my horses out in the pasture and comes when called, lets you catch her too! She loves trails….I think that’s her true calling! She’s a completely different horse when on trail.
As I’ve mentioned before she’s not comfortable with the saddle still, I have only been able to walk under saddle. Mara seems to do better when she’s not working every day…..daily, seems to make her “nervous tendency” worse. She does much better with in our sessions if they are every other day. I think she truly understands that she loved here and she try’s daily to do better!
Mara can self load too! Trailer training has been great for her mind along with side passes and playing in the creek. She’s also broke to jog along side the quad! She loves to be groomed
Mara is on 1 scoop of Kalm-N-Easy twice a day along with unlimited hay.
When August comes around and if I still don’t feel 100% confident in the saddle. I will do the best we can because it took a team to get this lovely mare this far and I know that in time she will come along beautifully!
